ARIZONA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES September 2, 2010
STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX
Representative Rich Crandall (R-Mesa), has been appointed as vice-chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures' (NCSL) Standing Committee on Education. Rep. Crandall will be working with legislators and legislative staff from other states to provide advice, direction and input on the Committee's work on education issues. He begins his one-year term at NCSL's Fall Forum which meets December 9-11, 2010 in Phoenix, AZ.
"I am extremely honored to serve in this capacity," Representative Crandall said. "This opportunity provides access to innovative national policy research which we can use to develop a long-term education plan for Arizona."
In addition, Representative Crandall has been honored by former Governor Jeb Bush by being named as a member of the Digital Learning Council. Governor Bush, a staunch supporter of K-12 education reform, created this group of more than 50 national leaders from education, philanthropy, business, technology and state lawmakers to create a roadmap for digital learning. Notable members of the Digital Learning Council include Joel Klein, Superintendent of New York Public Schools, John Couch, Vice-President of Education for Apple Computers and former Phoenix Suns player and current Mayor of Sacramento, Kevin Johnson. The Digital Council will identify and promote innovative and proven uses of technology in education.
"The Digital Learning Council is focused on integrating technology in the classroom to move beyond our current system of one-size fits all education delivery," Representative Crandall said. "Using digital learning will advance educational opportunities in our schools and for educators, parents, and students who believe that the key to academic success begins and ends with the individualized learning experience. I am excited to be part of this groundbreaking effort."
